ATCC VR-1436 is a reference strain of Anaplasma marginale (Theiler) derived from whole blood of a naturally infected Hereford cow in South Idaho (designation S64-Id2AM). Provided as frozen rickettsiae for veterinary hemoparasite research, the material is stored and shipped in the vapor phase of liquid nitrogen; infected blood remains viable for 24 hours at 4°C.
